An ambulance was called to The Co-operative: Calcutta Road at approximately 6:50pm, Tuesday 23rd May.
A customer entered the store to use the ATM, before slumping and falling out of her wheelchair, unconscious. Staff immediately called the emergency services who were on-site in minutes and worked tirelessly to resuscitate the lady for approximately 40 minutes. At approximately 7:30pm she was airlifted to hospital, accompanied by a close family member who had been called. Unfortunately, news later reached the store that the lady, who was a regular customer, never regained consciousness and had sadly passed away.
Support will be made available to our colleagues in store who acted calmly and professionally in an extremely difficult situation, and are understandably shaken.
Our sincere deepest condolences go out to the lady's family at this tragic time.
