Local Co-operative Society, Chelmsford Star, entered a team of nine people into the Brentwood Half Marathon which took place on Sunday 19th March 2017 to help raise further funds for their Charity of the year, kids Inspire.

Lovers of the grape discovered far-reaching health benefits as a result of drinking the odd glass of vino, when local independent co-op society, Chelmsford Star held a Fairtrade Wine-tasting Evening on 2nd March. It was revealed that, amongst other benefits, drinking Fairtrade wine in the UK allowed struggling communities overseas to build hospitals and schools, and better support themselves.
Chelmsford Star has formally launched its latest food store in Portsea Road, with help from the Tilbury Riverside Project. This brings the Society’s ever increasing portfolio of food stores to forty one.
The Tilbury Riverside Project, which promotes and supports economic, social and cultural regeneration in the area, is just one of hundreds of community groups that Chelmsford Star assists as part of its everyday business.
Fundraising for our team of runners embarking on the Brentwood Half Marathon on 19th March has now exceeded £700.
Thank you to local companies, Chalk Media, Allied Bakeries and Circleline Design for their recent contributions to the pot!
However, we still need more funds to hit our target of £2,000.

A junior school in Leigh-on-sea is recruiting all parents and shoppers using a local co-op convenience store in an effort to raise some extra money for the school.
Pupils from West Leigh Junior School launched their ‘Community Card’ account with the Co-op food shop on London Road, Leigh-on-sea. The store is owned by Chelmsford Star, an independent co-operative that operates in Essex, and one which specifically benefits local groups and schools.
A co-op food store in Dagenham is on the look-out for local charities or community groups that may be in need of some extra fundraising.
The branch on Wood Lane, Dagenham is owned by an independent co-op society called Chelmsford Star, based in Essex, and it has been set up to specifically support local groups in our area. It is on the hunt for sports teams, PTAs, church groups, schools and nurseries, or any group in Dagenham who may benefit from some extra funds through its Community Card initiative.
