Earth Day is a reminder of the importance of environmental conservation and sustainability, encouraging us to come together and take action for a healthier planet and a brighter future.
As a Co-op the environment, the local community and sustainability are at the forefront of what we do, so this Earth Day, here is what your Society have been doing to ensure a sustainable future…
- Our electricity consumption has reduced by 3% compared to last year. Overall, our net CO2 emissions decreased by 10%, despite an increase in greenhouse gas conversion factors.
- We have diverted waste from landfill – 99.7%, compared to 99.2% in 2022/23.
- Your Society works in partnership with the Salvation Army to provide clothes recycling services at five food sites. This has assisted customers in recycling 32,500kgs of clothing.
