A Special Christmas Remembrance Evening at Old Park Meadow

Monday Dec 16, 2024

On Friday evening (13th December) the serene surroundings of Old Park Meadow Burial Ground in North End, Dunmow, became a haven of reflection and togetherness as over 50 attendees gathered for a heartfelt Christmas Remembrance Evening.

Hosted by Peter Moule and organised by Chelmsford Star Funeral Directors, the evening provided a touching opportunity for families and friends to come together and honour the memories of loved ones during the festive season.

Host for the evening, Peter Moule.

The evening began with a warm welcome and introduction from our President, Tony Price, setting the tone for the poignant moments that followed. Reverend Andrew Merchant led a Bible reading, offering words of comfort and hope, while beautiful music from harpist Caroline Hall added an ethereal touch to the atmosphere.

Sandra Sykes captivated the audience with her reading of the seasonal poem Memories, a deeply moving reflection that resonated with many present. A photo tribute displayed on the screen celebrated the lives of those remembered, and attendees were invited to write names and messages on tree tags to honour their loved ones. The symbolic lighting of the tree, accompanied by these heartfelt notes, was a particularly touching moment of the evening.

The ceremony was brought to a close with the Last Post and Reveille performed with dignity by Standard Bearer Peter Hart, followed by a blessing from Reverend Andrew Merchant. This solemn and uplifting conclusion was a fitting tribute to the occasion.

Afterwards, guests enjoyed refreshments and mince pies, sharing memories and reflections in a warm and supportive atmosphere.

Feedback from attendees highlighted the impact of the event, with one guest writing:
“Along with my sister, I would just like to say thank you for the memorial service you all arranged last evening at Old Park Meadow. The harpist played beautifully, the messages comforting, and the lighting of the tree, along with the photo montage, was very moving. Thank you for the opportunity for us to take time in such a busy schedule at this time of year to celebrate and remember those we love and have lost in such a special way.”

For those unable to attend in person, the service was streamed live, and a recording is available to watch back online.

Chelmsford Star Funeral Directors would also like to remind everyone that we offer free bereavement groups for those in need of support, not just at Christmas but throughout the year. If you or someone you know could benefit from this service, you can find more information on our Funerals website HERE.

As we approach Christmas, the evening served as a gentle reminder of the enduring presence of love and cherished memories during the festive season. Chelmsford Star Funeral Directors would like to thank everyone who attended and contributed to making the evening so special.
