Chelmsford Star Co-op’s Youth Board, a part of the Young Essex Assembly (YEA), has been working on a special “Community Shield” project — launched on a day of global significance, marking both India’s and Pakistan’s Independence Days.

The Youth Board looked for similarities and common threads between the multiple cultures that they’re made from.
The Shield is designed to capture contributions from across the community, reflecting what unites us all. Participants were encouraged to share words, images, and ideas that highlight common values, celebrating diversity while focusing on the connections that bring people together. The motto? TEAM: Together Everyone Achieves More.
“When people work together they can do amazing things they might not be able to do alone, and our Youth Board wanted to create something that represented that,” said Chelmsford Star Co-op’s Head of Membership & Marketing, Kevin Bennett. “Being yourself matters because everyone brings different ideas, skills, and strengths — and when we collaborate, everyone benefits. A community is stronger when it is diverse, co-operative, and supportive of each other.”
The Shield will stand as a symbol of unity, cooperation, and shared humanity — a reminder that our differences make us stronger when we come together.
