This is the 21st year that Sister Moira and Sister Margaret, from the Canonesses of the Holy Sepulchre, will be holding their annual fun week in Melbourne. Chelmsford Star Co-op has been supporting them every step of the way.
Joining Chelmsford Star Co-op in support this year are local crisp suppliers, Fairfield Farms; Bobby’s Ice Poles and Shaken Udder milkshakes. Together, refreshments have been provided to cover lunches and snacks for the children taking part in the weekly programme of activities.
The Sisters’ ‘Fun Week’, which concentrates on activities and events for young people during the summer holidays, is always popular and has become relied upon by hundreds of families each year. Sister Moira said, “We have various activities, including cooking, crafting, dancing and fun games, drumming, stunts and circle tricks, as well as learning about science. There is no direct link or theme with religion, other than the fact that we are a group of people wanting to help out in the community”.
Sister Margaret added, “Many of the young people on the estate would otherwise have no hope of a holiday or even of days out. This fills a need!”
As well as supporting an average of 150 children each day, the Canonnesses also helped build the confidence of approx. 25 ‘yellow-shirt’ volunteers who act as mentors and role models for the younger children.
Keep up the great work, Sisters, and we hope everyone has a good week!
