Scargill Junior and Infant Schools were on hand to help us relaunch our Mungo Park Road store in Rainham this week.
The Official ribbon-cutting came from the Junior School Head Boy and Head Girl, who were joined by our Society President, Tony Price, and store manager Ruwan Wickramasooriya. Pupils from the Infant School then performed their song, “The Place To Be” to a crowd of proud parents, teachers, shoppers and colleagues. The school’s motto, ‘Striving jointly for success’, was also a welcome discovery. You can see them performing their song here, but watch out – it’s a bit of an earworm!
Head of School, Mrs Graham, said the store was popular with teachers and parents alike, and welcomed the chance for the pupils to sing there. “We teach them all about Community Values, but it is great to be able to put them into situations like this where they can see a company putting those values into practise.”

Store manager, Ruwan
The store had only been closed for 4 days, but a huge amount of work has been completed both inside out, a testament to the skill levels and teamwork of the Development Manager, the Works Team, the Field Team and colleagues on the shop floor. As well as a new and improved layout, extended hot food ranges, a My Coffee Station and new slushy drinks, the store has also introduced a range of postal options and can now take parcel collections and drop-offs. Plus, the sleek black colour pallet and the incorporation of the International Co-op Alliance’s co-op logo, of course.

The store is easy to shop and great to look at.
