After a one-year break, the prestigious Pride of Essex Awards are making a much-anticipated comeback in 2025, thanks to the support of Chelmsford Star Co-op as a new headline sponsor.
Celebrating its 30th anniversary, the awards honour the extraordinary individuals and unsung heroes of Essex, shining a spotlight on those who go above and beyond to make a difference in their communities.
Barry Wood, CEO of Chelmsford Star Co-op—and a former winner of the Pride of Essex ‘Hope’ (Hero of Pandemic Essex) Award—shared his excitement:
“Chelmsford Star has supported these awards since their inception in 1995. When we realised they were at risk, it was only natural for us to step forward and ensure their continuation. As a co-op, supporting the local community is at the heart of what we do, and these awards help us recognise those working tirelessly to improve the lives of others within it.”
Susie Cornell MBE, DL, founder of the Pride of Essex Awards, added:

Nominations for the 2025 Pride of Essex Awards opened on 14th February, giving the public the chance to put forward inspiring individuals for recognition. The new awards website, PoEawards.org, is now accepting submissions.
Seven award categories will recognise outstanding contributions across various fields, including a brand-new accolade—the ‘Star of Essex’ Award, celebrating an individual’s lifetime of achievement and dedication.
The awards ceremony will take place in October, bringing together nominees, supporters, and key community figures for an unforgettable celebration.
