Pupils from Year 5 at Writtle Junior School were on hand to help officially unveil the mosaic they created, which has been mounted outside our Co-op store in Bridge Street, Writtle. It was revealed to the public on Monday 15th July.

Our Writtle store has a long history supporting the school, both from its current location and its previous, on Writtle Green. The school’s motto, ‘Together Everyone Achieves More’ is about as Co-op as you can get, and when we approached the school to work with them on a local project, the mosaic idea was born.
The theme of the mosaic came about through The Wilderness Foundation, beneficiaries of a Chelmsford Star Community Fund grant, who were working closely with Writtle Junior School on a nature and biodiversity project. Just as our wildlife must rely on each other to create a functioning ecosystem, so to must our communities. This message of co-operation was perfect and, with guidance from The Mosaic Studio, pupils from Year 4 designed all the elements of the mosaic, which features local wildlife, Writtle church and the duckpond on the village green. Over the course of the school year, pupils laid the tiles to create the final masterpiece that is now on display.
